Who Are We...

Welcome to the home of the Hawks.

Alta High School is located in Sandy, Utah, a suburb south of Salt Lake City. This year, the men's team defined the odds and won the first state championship in the school's history. The men's team is coached by Rob Murphey, a history teacher at the school. For many years, he has been training the team, building upon each year's strength and experiance. This year's varsity team featured four seniors: Jack Webster, Kyle Moffet, Parker Syndergaard, and Blake Bartholomew. Joining these seniors were Juniors Garrett Jones, Brian Howell, and Zach Evens, as well as #8 Sophmore Ryan Fuller. These eight have been working hard the entire season, and were rewarded with their efforts. At the Utah state meet, the Alta hawks dominated at the men's 5A compitition, with all the top five scorers from Alta placing in the top twelve. In combined scoring, Alta still managed to dominate over Timpview High School, who previously had managed to edge out Alta in the Bob Firman Invitational. The team continued to train hard after the meet, preparing for the NXN Southwest Regional in Tempe, Arizona. Many doubted Alta would be able to prevail over many New Mexico "super-powers" including Los Alamos, Cibola, and the dominant Albuquerque Acadamy. Despite this, Alta raced with all their heart and managed to place second, automatically qualifying them for NXN Nationals in Oregon. Stoked, the team enjoyed the thrill of a lifetime there, and though they didn't place as high as they would have hoped, sealed of the season with a week end of fun that they will always remember.

If one word could be used to describe the woman's cross country team, the operative word would definately be big! This year, over 35 girls were on the girls Alta XC team! This, combined with their awesome coaches Justin Pitcher (a.k.a. Pit) and Leissel Morris (a.k.a. Smores) has allowed the team to have one of the most fun and productive seasons ever. Recently, they (with a few of the J.V. men's team) traveled to Walnut, California for the Footlocker Western Regional, where many of the girls raced exceedingly well and medaled. Some of these include Seniors Jenny Mccune, Allie Anderson, and Kelsey Morris, Junior Rachel Pearson, and Sophmores Kaitlin Syndergaard and Sierra Batey. The team is growing stronger every year, and will soon emerge as a top contender in the state.
